Kandawgyi Lake – Royal Lake In Yangon
Kandawgyi Royal Lake, located on the Kandawgyi Kanpat road near the famous Shwedagon gold temple, will provide tourists with moments of tranquility and relaxation after a long day of exploring Yangon. Kandawgyi Lake is a tranquil destination in the midst of Yangon, and one of two large lakes in the city. This is an artificial lake east of Shwedagon Pagoda that receives water from Inya Lake via a network of water paths. The lake was constructed to provide clean water to the British colonial government at the time.

The Kandawgyi Natural Park and Yangon Zoo surround this 61-hectare lake, which also houses an oceanographic institute and an amusement park. As a result, the entire Kandawgyi complex is an ideal destination for both adults to relax and children to entertain. The Yangon Rowing Club used to practice on Lake Kandawgyi, which is now the Kandawgyi Royal Hotel. The famous Karaweik palace, built in 1972 on the model of the royal boat, is located along the lakeshore. Today, this work has been transformed into a buffet restaurant where visitors can enjoy a fancy yet romantic dinner with a spectacular view.

Instead of the daydreaming appearance, Kandawgyi Lake becomes extremely shimmering and fanciful at night, with colorful lights, a gleaming pagoda, and a cool breeze. Kandawgyi, built by the British as a reservoir, is most beautiful at sunset, when the shimmering Shwedagon is reflected in the calm water. The walkway, which mostly runs along the lake’s south and west sides, is also a great place to jog in the morning or stroll in the evening.
